On June 26th, We received a Mystery Missions team from Portland Bethany Presbyterian Church.  Small, but mighty, the team of 3 adults and 5 kids (12-15 yo) proved the power of service to the community. Bringing smiles and laughter, the team led by Youth Leader Megan, assisted the ROC at our yard sale by sorting clothing and other items. They continued to brave the hot temperatures and served at our distribution line by loading food bags into our patron’s cars.  Megan shared that the kids had to fund their trips individually and made over 1,000 cinnamon rolls to fund the mission.

As a Mystery Missions trip, students did not know where they were going to serve. The further south they traveled, most began to wonder whether they were going into California. They were surprised when they pulled into Grants Pass where they served both at the ROC Food Pantry and the Gospel Rescue Mission thrift stores. The Mystery Missions team was offered accommodations at our local Bethany Presbyterian Church. We had the best time with this young team and their servants hearts. Thank you so much Portland BPC and all of the good work you are doing in your community and throughout the state!

Big Decline Expected in SNAP Benefits: Huge Impact to Our Community

In the July 1st edition of the Grants Pass Daily Courier, J. Scott Applewhite of the Associated Press stated that President Trump’s new bill would cut nearly 1.2 Trillion dollars largely in Medicaid and Food Stamp Programs and adds a work requirement to able bodied people.

Regardless of where you personally land on this decision, our ROC patrons are desperately concerned about the upcoming scarcity of resources that will compound the food insecurity. At the ROC, we value our patron’s needs and their privacy. Our patrons are largely comprised of low-income seniors and disabled citizens who are already faced with high medical costs and expensive housing options. We ask that you join us in donating food or other resources to the ROC, the local Food Bank, or your favorite food pantry. We are working hard to fill the gaps where we can. Our team is dedicated to this community and its well-being. A fed community is a healthy community!!
