Expanding to Serve More Vulnerable Locals
BRIDGE to Independence: On May 15th, our BRIDGE to Independence classes will kick off for eight weeks. Our candidates have been chosen for this first set and we are excited to see the power of food, education, and grit come together. Our BRIDGE to Independence program is a series of educational classes designed to improve budgeting, resource management, food preparation, and healthy nutritional choices. As our candidates work through the program, they will also attend one on one case management appointments with our Executive Director to ensure the power and stability of the training. By lending a warm heart and open ear, we are uniting to serve our vulnerable clients to limit food insecurity and protect their individual stability. If you have not yet considered giving to this worthy program, please partner with us today.
Love Your Neighbor Campaign Kickoff: Many of the faces you see serving at the ROC Food Pantry have also been patrons of the ROC themselves. Our volunteers know from first hand experience, how difficult bare cupboards and empty bank accounts can be. This is why the “Love Your Neighbor” campaign is kicking off in May. Our team wants to bring a heightened awareness to food insecurity and empower our patrons to know that no matter if they are experiencing good or difficult times, we are here to walk beside them.
Our goal for this fundraising campaign is to raise 10,000 pounds of canned goods through the summer and to add $10,000 to our operating budget to save for repairs and maintenance on our property and equipment. Our forklift is our most used piece of equipment next to our walk-in cooler. It saves us thousands of dollars’ worth of production time when we are unloading heavy pallets from our donors. In fact, it is so well used that it is a member of the family!
Our Most Needed Food Items:
Canned fruits and Vegetables, canned beans, pasta, rice, bread, tuna or canned meats.
We cried out and YOU responded! I made a plea on our Facebook page for more shelf stable and canned food donations! Within a matter of hours, our community angels responded in force bringing much needed food donations to our warehouse! A BIG THANK YOU TO CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH!!! Through their consistent giving, they have logged over 150 pounds of food donations for the month of April! Calvary Lutheran member, Linda Welo, graciously delivers it to us every week. Thank you so much Calvary Lutheran and all of your members for supporting our ministry to the needy of Josephine County! You truly have servant hearts!!!
SPRING MEANS YARD SALE SEASON!! Another wonderful way to help fight hunger in Grants Pass is to donate to our Yard Sale! Our yard sale is open Tuesday – Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturdays 9am to 1pm. If you have items you wish to donate, please contact Shonna at 541-450-5712 and she will coordinate this service for you. We are unable to take worn or broken furnishings, items with missing pieces, or electronic items. We are looking forward to seeing you in the sunshine!!
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 ESV
